The Samaja, the name of which is synonymous to a society in awakening, has been influencing the Government as well as the people of Orissa since 1919, the pre-independence era. Founded by Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das, the history of modern Orissa synchronises with that of the Samaja. The Samaja as the Premier Oriya Daily had been getting published over the years uninterruptedly under the strict guidance and management of accomplished personality like late Pt. Lingaraj Mishra and Padmabhushan Dr.Radanath Rath.

Handed over to the Lok Sevak Mandal, New Delhi through the will of Pandit Gopabandhu Das, the Samaja is today managed by Servants of the People Society. The Samaja known for its ethical practices and traditional values, has always responded to its reader's satisfaction and expectation.

To reach out to the readers at the remotest and farthest of places, The Samaja has already released six editions at Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Rourkella, Kolkota and Vizag. The Samaja has also got the internet edition for the globe as well as the e-paper edition.

The present circulation of The Samaja is highest amongst the Newspapers published in Oriya language. This is possible due to the emphasis put on innovative news planning, investigative journalism and impartial reporting. Every day it comes out with 16 pages including 6 coloured pages. The Samaja, a combination of tradition and technology, is the oldest and the premier Oriya daily enjoying the confidence of readers, thus making The Samaja the most economical and effective medium for the advertisers to communicate their message to the people.

About 80% of the net profit of The Samaja is spent for the welfare activities of the people of Orissa by way of extending stipend to needy students, by helping the patients and victims of natural calamities and through miscellaneous charity and donations. A large amount goes to the Gopabandhu Institute of Medical Science and Research.

The Samaja is a legendary society in Progress.
